Typing

I've heard many writers talk about how
They write with
A pen
And not
A computer

The pen
Cool grip
Rigid flow
Firm click
Inky flow
Forming shapes
Forming art
The liquid imprint
Of the writer's mind

It's more personal
They say
It's more magical
They say
That your early mornings
Your late nights
Your under the covers work
With flashlights
Can only flow out of you
With something to channel them

Like a magician's wand
Without a wand he's still a magician
Just a less effective one

I don't know about that

A computer's tangible too
Smooth screens
Clicking keys
Round mouse
Bright light
Fingers flying
Finger's painting
The landscape
Of the writer's mind

It's more convenient
I think
It's more musical
I think
That my waking up at midnight
My thoughts the pool
Under the table writing
In the middle of school
Can flow out of me
Onto the screen that is my canvas

Like a magician's staff
Less conventional than an old fashioned wand
But by no means less effective

But then again
I wrote this poem
With pen on paper
