The Minute That It Breaks
I was watching a girl try to glare at a boy who was teasing her. I could see her really trying to hold in her laughter and look disapprovingly at him.
Her face was a wall of stone
A dam, if you like
Rigid
Tight
He was throwing pebbles at it
Joke upon joke
But she would not yield
She stayed
Unrelenting
I saw the moment
That she could not hold it in any longer
The dam broke
And the river of laughter
flowed through
Her face was a wall of stone
A dam, if you like
Rigid
Tight
He was throwing pebbles at it
Joke upon joke
But she would not yield
She stayed
Unrelenting
I saw the moment
That she could not hold it in any longer
The dam broke
And the river of laughter
flowed through
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI just found this poem, quite liked it, paints a vivid picture.
As an aside, why is saying that words 'painted' a vivid picture considered a compliment ? It's almost as if colours and shapes are superior to words, and language has accepted it.
What do you think ?
I can't say for sure. It is said that "A picture is worth a thousand words" , but I don't believe that that's it. I think that it is more because literature is seen through the mind's eye, and it is a compliment to the writer if the picture is clear.
DeleteGlad you liked the poem :)
