The Minute That It Breaks

I was watching a girl try to glare at a boy who was teasing her. I could see her really trying to hold in her laughter and look disapprovingly at him.

Her face was a wall of stone
A dam, if you like
Rigid
Tight
He was throwing pebbles at it
Joke upon joke
But she would not yield
She stayed
Unrelenting

I saw the moment
That she could not hold it in any longer
The dam broke
And the river of laughter
flowed through

  1. Hi,
I just found this poem, quite liked it, paints a vivid picture.
As an aside, why is saying that words 'painted' a vivid picture considered a compliment ? It's almost as if colours and shapes are superior to words, and language has accepted it.
    What do you think ?

    1. I can't say for sure. It is said that "A picture is worth a thousand words" , but I don't believe that that's it. I think that it is more because literature is seen through the mind's eye, and it is a compliment to the writer if the picture is clear.

Glad you liked the poem :)
